Obituary
Marlin G. Hamblet was born on September 4, 1937. After graduating from Palm Beach High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He later transitioned to the United States Air Force where he finished his career. A good portion of his life was spent in the military, which took him all over the world. He lived in Germany, France, Turkey, England, and Spain, among other places. After retiring from the military, Marlin returned home to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he worked for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed traveling in his free time.
Marlin passed away on November 28, 2022, after an adventurous and fulfilling life. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Marlin is survived by his children Sean, Keith, Karan, and Benjamin, his brother Prentice, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Beryl. While they lived separately in recent years, they still loved one another and she cherishes memories of their time together.
Funeral
On June 17, 2024, Senior Master Sergeant Marlin G. Hamblet (Retired) will be laid to rest with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. He retired from the United State Air Force in 1983 after almost 27 years of distinguished military service. His faithful service to our nation earned him the privilege of burial at Arlington National Cemetery, the most hallowed burial ground in the United States.
The funeral will be private with only close family present.
Family members planning to attend are requested to RSVP not later than 05/17/2024.
Following is the anticipated timeline for the service:
1:15 PM
- Family and guests arrive at the cemetery via Memorial Avenue. (Note: Guests will be required to present identification upon arrival)
- Gate guards direct guests to park in queuing lanes with signs indicating which lane is dedicated to Marlin’s service
- After parking, guests proceed to the Administration Building where a receptionist will guide them to a waiting area
1:45 PM
- The family’s assigned Arlington National Cemetery representative provides guidance on the funeral procession
- The procession departs from queuing lanes, led by the family’s assigned Arlington National Cemetery representative, to the gravesite location or transfer point
2:00 PM
- Committal service conducted
- Military funeral honors rendered
Celebration
On June 17, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Marlin G. Hamblet. The celebration will take place at the Black Sheep Restaurant in Manassas, Virginia. Dinner will be provided.
Guests are advised that westbound I-66 heading away from the Washington, DC, area can become congested later in the afternoon. Please also note that an E-Z Pass transponder is required for portions of I-66. Those without one will need to find alternate (and slower) routes.
There are several hotels options nearby. One such option, Tru by Hilton, appears to be the most conveniently located reputable brand.
Administration Building, Arlington National Cemetery
Those attending the funeral service must arrive at the Arlington National Cemetery Administration Building via Memorial Avenue not later than 1:15 p.m. to attend the service. Guests will be required to present identification upon arrival at Arlington National Cemetery.

I am so grateful to have had you as my father. I have had a wonderful life thus far, which is due in no small part to the stable upbringing you provided and the values you instilled in me. Any successes I may have had in this life can be traced back to opportunities you provided - opportunities you yourself never had.

Marlin, I will never forget the first time we have met. It was at your son's graduation at Quantico. I entered the large lobby by myself and felt a little lost because I did not know where to go. Then I see this man with a big smile approaching me. It was such a nice day and special day. Next time I saw you was at your son Sean's and my daughter's wedding. Berry, Art and I had such a good time chatting with you. Again, you looked so happy. I am so thankful for those sweet memories. Life is made of hello and good byes. The goodbyes are so hard... I met Marlin only once, and that was at Sean’s and Georgina’s marriage in Oregon in 2014. I have fond memories from that occasion, including my conversations with Marlin at the family get-together the night before and Marlin’s jumping off a cliff into a whitewater river the following day.
In the years that have ensued, I have come to an understanding of the depth of Sean’s love and respect for his father and how Marlin’s life is reflected in Sean’s character and outlook on life.
